This fall 2024 semester has been a period of significant activity and growth for our data science, mathematics, and statistics students. The Department of Mathematics is appreciative of our collaboration with OSF HealthCare, which has afforded our students invaluable academic and professional opportunities.

In addition to their regular coursework and participation in departmental seminars and colloquia, students actively engaged with a series of guest lectures delivered by the OSF Data Science, Statistics and Health Care Analytic team. These lectures provided valuable insight into real-world applications of data science, automation, statistical modeling, and visualization, stimulating student interest and intellectual curiosity.

The semester culminated on a high note with a much-anticipated Job Shadowing Day at OSF JUMP on November 19. This incredible event allowed students to rotate through three specialized activities to highlight the breadth and depth of opportunities in data science and automation, analysis and insights/visualization, and statistics. Our students truly relished these hands-on, interactive experiences, which allowed them to learn directly from professionals in the field. Beyond the technical knowledge, they also made meaningful connections with OSF team members, forging relationships that will undoubtedly shape their future careers.

This semester’s collaboration with OSF has proven to be highly impactful. Our students eagerly anticipate future opportunities to engage with the OSF team. Together, we are forging a strong connection between academia and industry, empowering the next generation of data scientists, mathematicians, and statisticians to achieve excellence in their respective fields.
