The multidisciplinary committee (MDC) at Illinois State University provides both a unique educational experience for our graduate students and a service to our community.
This committee is composed of students and professionals from audiology, speech-language pathology, social work, educational psychology, special education, and curriculum and instruction (literacy). The committee meets weekly to discuss interesting and complex pediatric cases that involve most, if not all, disciplines. Members collaborate to provide students, families, and their educators with a diagnosis and recommendations that can result in improved academic performance and access to instruction.
Graduate students in both speech-language pathology and audiology may be assigned a semester rotation in the MDC. Students who participate in this experience learn information about assessments across disciplines, speak in a large group setting of other professionals, and impact the lives of elementary through high school-aged students.
