IT and ACS alumni, current students, faculty, staff and friends joined the School of Information Technology for a reception honoring long time professor Larry Brumbaugh and celebrating the Larry Brumbaugh Endowed Scholarship during Homecoming 2017.
Attendees enjoyed an evening of renewing old friendships and sharing stories from their days at Illinois State. The Homecoming 2017 theme of “Building a Legacy” was certainly appropriate as alumni recognized the important role Brumbaugh played in motivating them to pursue excellence in academics and beyond. Larry’s telling of his experiences in teaching and motivating many of those in attendance was especially enjoyable.
The scholarship established in his honor will provide support to a student accepted for endorsement or enrolled in good standing in the School of Information Technology at Illinois State University. “How better to honor Larry than to set up a scholarship award in his name so that his influence may be felt across the generations of students to come,” said alum Lance Rogers (‘91).
Scholarship contributor Harry McKee (’83) says, “It is our hope that this endowment will assist other aspiring students during their journey at ISU, and that they will have the opportunity to be inspired by some of their professors in the way that Larry was able to inspire us”.
“Scholarships like this one in honor of Larry and the Dave Kephart Memorial Scholarship which has been supported by many of the same alumni who made this one happen are tremendously valuable for recruiting and retaining strong students in our programs. I’m very grateful to the founding donors and to those who are continuing to contribute and increase the endowment. Our hope is that we will eventually be able to consistently support students on each scholarship for four years,” says Mary Elaine Califf, Director of the School of Information Technology.
The Larry Brumbaugh Endowed Scholarship is made possible by donations from many alumni and friends. You too can help support this scholarship. Click here to donate.
