A special meeting of the Illinois State University Alumni Association membership has been called by Association President Greg Ayers to consider a proposed change to the association’s Constitution.
The proposed change: In Article VII. Association Meetings, Section 2, replace the word “first” with the word “last.” The section would then read: “Annual Meetings: The annual meeting of the members of the Association shall be held in the last quarter of each university fiscal year.”
This change will allow the association’s annual meeting to take place in June rather than in September, as is current practice. At the annual meeting, new board members and officers are elected.
Changing the annual meeting date will afford the following advantages:
- Organization of committee leadership and membership will take place in the summer, prior to the beginning of the academic year.
- New members of the board will have increased opportunity to participate in alumni engagement activities including Homecoming preparation and Alumni Association Awards.
- The Alumni Association calendar will better compliment the University’s fiscal year calendar, including the opportunity to adopt a budget plan for the following year.
The special meeting is scheduled for Saturday, January 12, 2013, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the Illinois State University Alumni Center, 1101 N. Main St., Normal, IL 61761.
