All educators are invited to join Illinois State’s workshop on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) March 15 and 22 in the Alumni Center.

This is an essential workshop for teachers and other educators who want to develop a deeper and practical understanding of the standards. The event is organized and sponsored by the Mary and Jean Borg Center for Reading and Literacy and will be led by Dea Conrad-Curry, Ed.D. ’11, a veteran teacher, educational leader, and national speaker on the implementation of the CCSS.

Conrad-Curry has provided professional development in more than 100 Illinois schools and recently worked with the California Board of Education to align their English/language arts textbooks to the Common Core State Standards.

  • Examine the four essential documents that comprise the CCSS.
  • Generate instructional objectives and student-friendly targets using established Common Core grade-level standards.
  • Learn how reading for information strategies are connected to the CCSS strands in writing speaking and listening.
  • Craft performance targets that are aligned to grade-level standards using a four-step framework.

When: 9 a.m.–3 p.m., Fridays, March 15 and 22

Where: Alumni Center, 1101 N. Main Street, Normal

Cost: Two-day registration for one to three people from the same district is $200 per person. Two-day registration for four or more people from the same district is $175 per person. One-day registration is $125 per person.
