The College of Applied Science and Technology welcomed a fantastic group of new faculty at the start of this academic school year! Some of CAST’s newest faculty members took the time to answer a series of questions that share their background, research interests, hobbies, and more.
Wrapping up this week’s set of profiles is Dr. Stephen Mujeye, an assistant professor in the Department of Technology.
Tell us about yourself! Where are you from? Where did you study?
I was born and raised in Zimbabwe, Africa, and came to the United States after high school to go to college. I am married and my wife and I have three wonderful children. I did my undergrad in business administration and computer information systems at Siena Heights University in Adrian, Michigan. I then went on to Central Michigan University for my master’s in information resource management. I did my Ph.D. in information systems at Nova Southeastern University.
What originally got you interested in your area of study?
My area of study is information systems with a focus in information security. There seems to be an ever-increasing number of security breaches and I was interested in studying this area as well as contributing in finding solutions.
Any specific items on your research agenda that you’d like to share?
My research interest areas are network security, information security, and authentication methods. We are now relying on computers and the internet more than ever before. Due to COVID-19, most of us had to learn or work remotely. This poses some security issues and I’m interested in researching security patterns as well as ways of keeping networks and information systems secure.
What do you do in your free time? Any hobbies, community involvement, etc.?
I like to spend time with my family during my free time. I also like to travel around the world. My most recent travel experience was in Europe where I went on a road trip from Amsterdam, Netherlands to Rome, Italy. We passed through other countries like Germany, Switzerland, France, and Belgium. I’m involved in the community through my church as we do various community outreaches.
Do you have any goals for the upcoming year?
My goals for the upcoming year include establishing and solidifying my research agenda. I welcome the opportunity to not only teach at ISU but to also conduct some research. I also look forward to learning more about ISU as well as the community. I would like to be more involved in the community with different organizations.
