The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) is now accepting nominations for the University’s annual Civic Engagement Awards. The awards celebrate Illinois State’s core value of civic engagement by recognizing individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions to the cause.
Nominations are due by 11:59 p.m. on Monday, March 15, 2021.
“It is important to take time to recognize and celebrate students, faculty, staff, community partners, and RSOs/units for their outstanding contributions to our core value of civic engagement,” said Dr. Katy Strzepek, director of CCE.
“Working for social change can often require patience, courage, and lots of hard work, and taking time out to recognize people across the institution and community for their efforts to elevate civic engagement is critical because it shows that we affirm our institutional values,” Strzepek said.
Nominations can be made online.
The categories for this year’s awards are as follows:
- RSO Award
- Unit Award
- Interdisciplinary Award (New in 2021)
- Faculty Civic Engagement Award
- Staff Civic Engagement Award
- Student Civic Engagement Award
- Community Partner Award
This year, the Interdisciplinary Award is a new addition to the list of categories.
“Civic engagement is boundary spanning,” said Harriett Steinbach, assistant director of CCE. “We added this new award category because we wanted to be sure to honor and recognize civic engagement efforts at ISU that were not contained to a single department, unit, or RSO.”
Eligibility guidelines for each category can be found online.
The 2021 awards will be presented during a virtual ceremony on Tuesday, April 13, as part of the University’s annual Civic Engagement Celebration.
