The College of Education would like to invite students, faculty, staff, alumni and the Central Illinois community to a free and open to the public presentation, this Wednesday, April 3 by Alan Blankstein, an author, teacher, and leader committed to service in education.
Blankstein has dedicated his professional life to improving the quality of education for learners all across the United States. And, like many alumni of the College of Education, his years of service began as an educator in the classroom. As a music teacher and former “at risk” youth, he possesses a vested interest in leaving a lasting and positive impact on the lives of his students. This passion led to his involvement and leadership in several youth-serving organizations. In 1989, he led efforts to found the Harnessing Optimism and Potential through Education (HOPE) Foundation. HOPE’s objective is to deliver not only hope, but also real outcomes to schools and districts by working with them to create high-performing leadership teams and learning communities.
During his career, Blankstein has also become an accomplished author. Among his works is the best-selling book Failure is Not an Option. This phrase of resiliency is also the motto of his organization.
