Illinois State University’s Gamma Phi Circus will host its 2013 Spring Shows in Redbird Arena at 7 p.m. Friday, April 19, and at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, April 20.
Tickets are $12 for adult general admission, $10 for students and senior citizens, $8 for children ages 5 through 12 and $1 for children under 5. Before Saturday’s 1 p.m. show, there will be a children’s carnival with games and activities for all ages. Admission to the carnival is the matinee ticket. The carnival is sponsored by the Student Alumni Council.
The show is a two-hour performance featuring more than 20 unique acts. Gamma Phi performers will showcase many acrobatic and gymnastics acts commonly associated with professional circuses. Among these acts are trapeze, tight wire, juggling, unicycles, Russian Swing, German Wheel, clowns and much more.
“We are very excited to put on this year’s show,” said Gamma Phi Director Marcus Alouan. “Our troupe continues to grow every year with new and talented individuals that are dedicated to the performance of our circus acts. We have all worked countless hours as a troupe to make this show the best one we have ever performed.”
Gamma Phi Circus is the oldest collegiate circus in the United States. Established in 1929, Gamma Phi is a leadership-based organization, dedicated to helping members grow as individuals as well as within the circus family. Circus members are expected to uphold the circus values: commitment, integrity, respect, courage, unity and service. Gamma Phi Circus is a program of the College of Applied Science and Technology at Illinois State University.
Saturday’s evening performances will honor alumni Bob Walsh and Stephanie Hirsch for their service and participation to the circus. Walsh is our oldest alumnus and this is Hirsch’s silver anniversary of performing.
