The Department of Sociology and Anthropology will host a series of brown bag events this fall, organized and facilitated by Dr. Christopher Wellin, associate professor of sociology. The hybrid events will be held in Schroeder Hall 114 and via Zoom from noon–1:15 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring their lunch and ask questions.
Friday, September 9: A panel discussion of “Campus and Community Wide Initiatives Promoting Health and Social Integration and Older Adults in McLean County” will be offered by Wellin, a facilitator and panelist. Wellin is an associate professor of sociology and gerontology program coordinator. Joining him will be Elizabeth Kosuth ’01, M.S. ’10, and Lakeesha James-Smith ’01. Kosuth is the project manager of the ANEW (Advanced Nursing Education Workforce) grant in the Mennonite College of Nursing. James-Smith is the elder services coordinator with Bloomington Housing Authority.
Friday, October 21: Dr. Terrell Strayhorn, professor of educational administration and foundations, will be presenting, “It’s Not That…I Just Got Lucky: What Emancipated Foster Youth of Color Teach Us about Higher Education Institutions and Belonging.”
Friday, December 2: Dr. Jim Skibo, Distinguished Professor and Chair Emeritus of anthropology, will return to campus to present his findings, “What’s canoe with you? The discovery, recovery, and study of the Lake Mendota dugout canoes.” Skibo retired from Illinois State in 2018 and is currently the state archaeologist at Wisconsin Historical Society.
