Explore the benefits of being a breastfeeding mother and how to successfully return to campus as a breastfeeding mother. Also, learn about Illinois’ breastfeeding laws and the Illinois State University breastfeeding policy.
Health Promotion and Wellness has partnered with the Birth Center of Bloomington Normal in arranging for Trish Wierenga, a certified lactation consultant, to introduce breastfeeding to participants and to educate them on the topic. Two Support for Nursing Mother classes have been established to assist you: Breastfeeding 101 and Returning to Work or School.
Breastfeeding 101 introduces participants to the benefits of breastfeeding for baby, mom, and the family as well as information on nursing techniques, the role of pumping, and information about Illinois breastfeeding laws and Illinois State University’s policy.
Returning to Work or School explores how to successfully return to school or work as a breastfeeding mom. This class covers on-campus lactation spaces, the importance of pumping schedules, and a guide to help conversations with your supervisor and colleagues.
These classes are free to faculty, staff, and spouses/partners, but registration is required.
Time: 12:20 p.m. to 1:20 p.m.
