Congratulations to the Associate Director of the Katie School of Insurance and Risk Management Debbie Babcock who has been named to the Insurance Business America Magazine Hall of Fame 2022, an insurance trade journal.
Babcock has worked for years to bring over 3,000 talented students into the risk management and insurance industries. As associate director of the Katie School of Insurance and Risk Management, she is a “people broker” who connects students and industry through internships, company visits, mentorships, networking events, conferences, sports outings, and in many other ways.
Her network of industry professionals allows Babcock to keep students updated on jobs, career trends, and opportunities within the insurance industry. She also continues to maintain personal and professional connections to the school’s alumni through the insurance world, both domestically and internationally.
“One of the key successes of the Katie School has been having a person who is dedicated, and whose sole responsibility is connecting students to the insurance industry,” said the Director of the Katie School in Insurance and Risk Management Jim Jones. “Thousands of Illinois State students have benefited from this decision to dedicate a specific position to this and from Debbie’s commitment to this position. I think that sometimes universities cannot fully appreciate the value of a staff person in a non-academic role. I’m glad that Debbie has been recognized both internally and externally for her work.”
Babcock is or has been a board member of the Association of Professional Insurance Women, the Spencer Educational Foundation, the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation–Midwest Division, the Mid-Illinois RIMS Chapter, the American Risk and Insurance Association, and the Special Olympics Illinois. She is also the advisor for the Alpha Kappa chapter of Gamma Iota Sigma. Babcock received the President’s Award in 2008 from the American Risk and Insurance Association. She was also recognized as Trailblazer of the Year for 2018 by the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation.
