Jackie Schneider, chair of the Department of Criminal Justice Sciences, believes that criminologists can be more involved when it comes to saving endangered species.
Schneider believes that many of the strategies that have been successful against theft and drug trafficking can also work against poaching and illegal trade in endangered species. Last month, she presented to a United Nations group on what she calls a “market reduction approach” to reduce poaching. Schneider also authored the 2012 book, Sold Into Extinction.
