Student Health Services (on behalf of Recovery for Redbirds) and the Illinois State University Police Department will host Illinois State’s third biannual Drug Takeback Day on Saturday, April 22, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in the front circle drive of Thomas Metcalf School (107 S. University St.; one block south of College/University intersection). Participants can walk or drive up to drop off prescription or over-the-counter medications, inhalers, electronic vape devices and syringes/sharps. Why is such an event important?
  • Prescription and over-the-counter medications (as well as other items being collected at the event) can harm the water supply and environment if disposed of improperly by flushing or throwing them in the landfill.
  • Unused or expired medications are a public safety issue, leading to misuse and accidental drug poisoning. Prescription medications are the second most common form of drug misuse in America (behind cannabis), with many of these drugs obtained from family and friends (often unknowingly).
If you cannot make it to the event or need to recycle items between events, review the following information for permanent disposal locations.
