Senior throwers Tim Glover and Brittany Smith finished as NCAA Division I runners-up in their respective events, when the Redbird men’s and women’s track and field teams wrapped up action June 8 at historic Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon, for the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Glover earned his third-straight All-America honor while Smith earned her fourth-straight runner-up finish at the outdoor championships and 10th All-America honor of her career.
Glover, the 2011 and 2012 NCAA Champion in the javelin, faced off against defending Olympic Trials champion Sam Humphreys (Texas A&M), and Olympic Trials runner-up Sam Crouser (Oregon). Glover opened the event with a throw of 247-06 feet (75.44 meters), taking the top spot for a brief moment, before Humphreys improved his mark to 255-09 feet (77.95 meters) to take home the title. Smith tossed a season-best mark of 58-06.75 feet (17.85 meters) to solidify her second-place finish, 2 feet ahead of third-place finisher and conference foe Felisha Johnson of Indiana State.
Glover and Smith were joined at the NCAA Championships by senior sprinter Sade Sealy, who made her debut at the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter dash. Junior Kristen Zillmer also made her national debut, finishing 22nd overall in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
