Charles Bristow, instructional developer at the Center for Integrated Professional Development, will retire later this month. Friends and colleagues can wish him farewell from 3 to 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday, August 23. The event will be held in Stevenson Hall, room 401. Light refreshments will be provided.
Bristow began work at Illinois State in 1998 as part of the Instructional Technology Development unit, a predecessor to the current Center. Over the decades, he’s assisted countless faculty and staff members with questions about teaching with technology.
Bristow was instrumental in supporting the adoption of ReggieNet, Illinois State’s longtime learning management system. In addition to helping instructors learn to teach with it, he was a tireless advocate for ReggieNet’s improvement. Bristow was active in the open-source community, which supports Sakai, the engine behind ReggieNet, and he served as Illinois State’s LMS representative to other institutions. He also authored many of the ReggieNet help guides available on the Center’s website, and he has facilitated hundreds of professional development workshops during his career on a variety of topics.
Bristow was a natural addition to conversations about ReggieNet’s replacement, serving as an expert member of the campus faculty and staff advisory committee. He has been working on the transition to Canvas for nearly two years. He earned a master’s degree in ecology from Rutgers University, and he held staff positions there and at the University of Minnesota. Bristow will be joined in his retirement by his spouse, Dr. Diane Byers, a longtime associate professor in the School of Biological Sciences.
