The Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) is proud to welcome a new faculty member to the speech-language pathology program, Santhosh Simon. Simon specializes in the voice and voice disorders.
Simon recently submitted his doctoral dissertation at the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom. He is awaiting evaluations from his dissertation committee, and upon approval, he will have a Ph.D. in human communication sciences. Simon earned his Master of Science in speech and hearing from the University of Mysore and his bachelor’s in audiology and speech-language pathology from Mangalore University. He is certified as a speech-language pathologist by the American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) and a lifetime member of the Indian Speech and Hearing Association.
For the past 10 years, Simon has worked clinically with adults and children with communication needs in the United States. He has provided services in schools, skilled nursing facilities, and homes. He also supervised students, clinical fellows, and speech-language pathology assistants. In India, Simon worked as a clinical supervisor and lecturer/assistant professor teaching students in speech and hearing programs.
Simon’s research focuses on the characterization and care of voice in professional voice users, folk singers, and mimicry performers. He has conducted research in these areas in a variety of countries, including India, Denmark, France, the United Kingdom, and the United States. Simon looks forward to continuing his line of work here at Illinois State University while teaching undergraduate- and graduate-level courses in voice and voice disorders.
