The Center for Civic Engagement is pleased to partner with the Office of the Provost to facilitate nominations for the national Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program through the Carnegie Corporation of New York. The Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program awards $200,000 fellowships to support exceptional scholarship in the humanities and social sciences related to the theme of political polarization.
Acting Vice President for Academic Affairs and Provost Dr. Ani Yazedjian said, “The Carnegie Corporation of New York funds these fellowships specifically to engage the expertise of scholars from the humanities and social sciences to research the causes of increased polarization and lack of trust in democratic practices.”
First established in 2015, the Andrew Carnegie Fellows Program announced its second phase in 2023 with a new focus on political polarization. “Scholars in the humanities and social sciences are critical to this endeavor because they are trained to understand and address complex social problems and to suggest remedies that may positively impact public policies,” said Yazedjian.
Applications for the fellowship are due October 1. The Office of the Provost will review proposals and select one junior and one senior scholar as nominees from Illinois State University. Proposals will be evaluated based on originality, potential impact on the field, and plans to share findings with a broad audience. Illinois State University nominees will be notified by October 15 and will prepare to submit their application to the Carnegie Corporation by November 15.
