The Center for Civic Engagement (CCE) is accepting nominations for Illinois State University’s annual Civic Engagement Awards. Since they were first presented in 2017 by the American Democracy Project, the awards celebrate the University’s core value of civic engagement by recognizing individuals and organizations for their outstanding contributions in this area.
Nominations can be submitted by Tuesday, March 12, through the nomination form on the CCE website. Eligibility guidelines for each category and previous winners are also available online.
“We are delighted to continue this important recognition and celebration of students, faculty, staff, community partners, RSOs, and campus units for their exceptional contributions to our core value of civic engagement,” said Dr. Katy Strzepek, director of CCE.
“Working toward our mission of a more just and equitable world requires determination and courage. Taking the time to recognize individuals and teams throughout the institution and community for their efforts to advance civic engagement underscores how embodying our institutional values provides support for positive changes in our community and our world,” Strzepek said.
Awards will be given in the following categories:
- RSO Award
- Unit Award
- Interdisciplinary Award
- Centering EDI Award
- Faculty Civic Engagement Award
- Staff Civic Engagement Award
- Student Civic Engagement Award
- Community Partner Award
Nomination materials include a statement describing how the nominee contributes to civic engagement at the University and/or in the broader community, as well as up to two letters of support from students, community partners, or colleagues.
The 2024 Civic Engagement Award winners will be honored at the University’s Civic Engagement Celebration on Tuesday, April 9, at 2:30 p.m. in the Bone Student Center’s Circus Room.
