Illinois State University’s annual Civic Engagement Celebration will take place on Tuesday, April 9, 2024, from 2:30-4 p.m. in the Circus Room of the Bone Student Center.
Doors open at 2:30 p.m. for light appetizers and the annual Civic Engagement Exhibition. The exhibition will feature poster presentations by faculty, staff, and students sharing civically engaged projects, courses, and research.
Table displays will be provided by the Center of Civic Engagement (CCE) and campus partners with a civic engagement focus, including the Office of Sustainability, the Stevenson Center for Community and Economic Development, and the Center for Mathematics, Science, and Technology.
The formal program will begin at 3 p.m. with a welcome from Illinois State University President Aondover Tarhule. Special Assistant to the Provost Dr. Sue Hildebrandt, and Vice President for Student Affairs Dr. Levester “LJ” Johnson will give remarks and join CCE Assistant Director of Assessment Dr. Rachel Waring-Sparks, and CCE Director Dr. Katy Strzepek in announcing winners of the University’s 2024 Civic Engagement Awards. Additional time will be available for the exhibition after the presentations.
“This is an important annual celebration for the University,” said Dr. Strzepek. “Each year, we dedicate time to recognize the University’s core value of civic engagement by honoring the amazing work taking place across our campus and in our community. This is especially exciting as we consider the University’s new strategic plan, which emphasizes the importance of creating mutually beneficial partnerships that help our students become informed, engaged, and responsible community members, who will continue to make a positive difference locally and globally as life-long learners.”
The Civic Engagement Celebration is a free event with no registration required.
