The Illinois State University Alumni Association strives to provide lifelong learning and career development opportunities with programs that are easily accessed no matter a Redbird’s location.
Appears InIllinois State Insights is a webinar series focused on topics presented by award-winning authors and journalists, field professionals, leadership experts, career coaches, financial strategists, podcasters, and researchers. At least two webinars are offered each month, and all are free to join.
Previous topics have included personal brands, career changes, difficult conversations, connected families, equity and inclusion, leadership, creativity, communication styles, Enneagram personality types, civic engagement, and the digital world. “Thanks to our many Redbirds who completed last year’s alumni survey, we were able to use their feedback to improve the alumni experience,” said Kris Harding, M.S. ’94, executive director of Alumni Engagement. “Our alumni may not always have the time or means to come to in-person Redbird events to connect, so we are continuing to build programs we can bring to them no matter where they live.”
Alumni and friends looking for a more interactive experience can also become a member of the Alumni Association’s online book club. With more than 1,300 Redbirds enrolled, the book club offers participants a way to develop skills, expand their knowledge, and immerse themselves in a good book while engaging with fellow book lovers.
Five books are selected each year through participant voting, and book club members can enter book giveaway contests for selected titles. After each reading period, an open forum is held for each book in which a moderator facilitates conversation about the book. Almost every reading session also includes a live Q&A session with the book’s author that is also free and open to all alumni.
