Sound Walk with Norman W. Long
Wednesday, September 25 at 3:30 p.m.
Meet at University Galleries, and then walk to the Quad with Long.
Free and open to the public. Registration required.
Long describes his practice as centering around “walking, listening, improvising, performing, teaching, field recording, and exploring memory, place, ecology, and race.” Each of these elements will come into play when Long leads a Sound Walk around part of Illinois State University’s campus. He has led multiple walks with the Midwest Society for Acoustic Ecology as part of the Chicago Park District’s Night Out in the Parks program.
Long is an alum from the Wonsook Kim School of Art. This event is organized in conjunction with the exhibition: Norman W. Long: Calumet in Dub

Melisa is a kind-hearted follower of rules. She desperately wants a child, if only she could pass the government mandated test that will allow her to do it. Young Clarisa knows nothing except the perfectly curated life her parents have carved for her in their fortified underground mansion. She too has a test to pass, if only she could focus, follow, listen; the way Mother wants her to. In Erlina Ortiz’s magical Honey Bee Baby, the bees are gone, the resources are scarce, and everyone must earn their place in this world where the lines between right and wrong are blurred with blood.
