Each calendar year, individuals present in the U.S. on an immigration status are required to review and update their Sprintax Calculus Profile. This provides Illinois State University with a tax residency status determination for the new tax year. An individual’s tax residency (whether you are a nonresident or a resident for tax purposes) determines treaty eligibility, tax withholding and reporting requirements, and applicable tax forms to complete and submit to the University. This Sprintax Blog post includes additional information about tax residency in the U.S.

Please login to review and update your Sprintax Calculus Profile. If you did not previously activate and set a password for your profile, contact taxoffice@ilstu.edu for a new activation email. Once in your profile, be sure to make updates within the 2025 tax module.

If you are an employee and have previously submitted a Form W-4 and a Form IL-W-4, new copies of these forms are not required to be submitted unless you wish to make changes to the forms or if your tax residency status is changing. Previously submitted copies of these forms can be found in the Document Exchange section of earlier tax year modules.

If you have not previously submitted any forms, sign and submit all generated forms. We request all individuals sign and submit the updated Sprintax Tax Summary for tax year 2025 and any applicable treaty benefit forms.

Sprintax Calculus now has an electronic signing option for forms using Multi Factor Authentication. If the forms are electronically signed utilizing this Calculus functionality, they will automatically be submitted into Document Exchange for processing. Alternatively, forms may be printed, manually signed, and uploaded into the 2025 module’s Document Exchange. Signed forms may also be dropped off to the Payroll Office. We also request copies of your visa, passport, and I-20/DS-2019 be uploaded into the profile if not previously added. We request that you complete the update to your profile by January 2, 2025. The Sprintax Blog can be used as a resource for questions and information related to the nonresident tax system in the U.S. If you have any other questions, please feel free to reach out to taxoffice@ilstu.edu. You can also make an appointment with the ISU Payroll Office.
