Illinois State University’s College of Education is joining UNITE to co-sponsor a free screening of the new documentary, GO PUBLIC at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 19, in the Brown Ballroom of the Bone Student Center.
GO PUBLIC: A Day in the Life of an American School District is a 90-minute documentary of one entire day in the Pasadena Unified School District. Pasadena is a racially and economically diverse community in Southern California with 28 public school campuses. GO PUBLIC tells the story of one full day from sunup to long after sundown.
The free screening is open to the public, but those interested are encouraged to RSVP online.
Drawing from 50 filmmakers who looked at 50 subjects, the documentary dedicates time to teachers, students, principals, volunteers and many others in the unique involvement that makes a public school district function. With no voice-over narrative and no expert commentaries, the film immerses the viewer into experiences of navigating a typical day in public school.
