Comedian Craig Robinson is coming home to Illinois State University. The 1994 Illinois State alum will return to Normal for a one-night performance of stand-up, music and more with Craig Robinson and the Nasty Delicious band during Family Weekend at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 13, in Braden Auditorium of the Bone Student Center.
Tickets go on sale at noon on Friday, Aug. 15. Tickets are $32 for all seats and will be available at the Braden Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations and at Ticketmaster.com.
Robinson gained fame on the Emmy-winning TV show The Office portraying the acerbic Dunder-Mifflin employee Darryl Philbin, though his roots are in music and stand-up comedy. Earning a bachelor’s degree in music from Illinois State, Robinson performed with the University’s Interdenominational Youth Choir. It was while earning a master’s degree in education from St. Xavier University in Chicago that he also discovered a love of acting and comedy.
Robinson became a K-8 teacher in the Chicago Public School system, but the acting bug would not let go, and he joined the famed Second City Theatre. As a stand-up comedian, Robinson first made his mark in the comedy circuit at the 1998 Montreal Just For Laughs Festival. That year, he also won the Oakland Comedy Festival Awards and the Miller Genuine Draft 1996 Comedy Search. He soon went on to perform his act on The Jimmy Kimmel Show and Real Time with Bill Maher.
He joined the cast of The Office in 2005, and his success led to film roles in films including Knocked Up, Pineapple Express and Hot Tub Time Machine. He re-teamed with Pineapple Express star James Franco for the blockbuster comedy This is the End.
Now headlining venues and festivals across the country, Robinson does both solo acts as well as full-band sets with The Nasty Delicious tying together his lyrical comedy with his finesse at the piano.
