Metcalf School’s Mandarin class traveled to the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis October 29 to visit the Terra Cotta Warriors and the Take Me There: China exhibits.
The students were able to see real Terra Cotta Warriors from 2,000 years ago and were impressed with the detailed design of the warriors’ faces and uniforms. The students were also able to build their own Terra Cotta Warrior, dress like a Terra Cotta Warrior, and see different Chinese currencies from the 2,000-year-old Qin Dynasty.
The Take Me There: China exhibit provided students with the opportunity to practice their oral speaking with Chinese museum workers, use Chinese calligraphy brushes to practice Chinese character writing, play real Chinese instruments, dress in Chinese opera clothes, “shop” in a Chinese grocery store, and “cook” a Chinese meal in a Chinese restaurant.
