The Career Center at Illinois State University is hosting the Spring Internship Fair for students on Tuesday, February 10, 2015, from 4–7 p.m. in the Brown Ballroom at the Bone Student Center.
Students seeking internships in various industries while attending Illinois State are encouraged to attend. Recruiters will come from a number of entities, including Fortune 500 companies, small businesses, local businesses, hospitals, and government agencies.
“These companies not only represent a variety of industries, but they are looking for a variety of majors as well,” said Susan Whitsitt, the Career Center’s assistant director of marketing and events. “The fair includes opportunities for internships and careers for students for all majors, and students are encouraged to discuss options and opportunities even with those companies who are not directly in their major, as many may have positions that are related to their field of study.”
Candidates attending the fair are encouraged to review the Career Center’s list of tips and strategies to help them prepare for the event.
Fair preparation
To help students prepare, the Career Center is hosting Resume Critique and Mock Interview Days twice this semester, on February 9 and March 18. Students can also print their resumes on free resume paper during Resume Critique and Mock Interview Days.
A behind-the-scenes tour is being held during the fair at 4:15 p.m. for students who have not previously attended the fair, or for those attending as part of a class requirement. Participants will view the fair layout and learn how to strategically select employers to visit, how to speak with employers, and how to ask them appropriate questions during the fair.
Students attending the fair need to bring their Redbird ID card and plenty of copies of their resume, and are encouraged to dress for an interview. Student can also order free business cards to distribute to employers from the Career Center. For more information or special accommodations, visit the Career Center.
