The Student Government Association (SGA) is the official governing body of students at Illinois State as recognized by the University. SGA holds 21 voting seats on the Academic Senate, granting SGA a degree of influence that is very rare in higher education. SGA offers a wide array of programs and services designed to enhance your experience at Illinois State University, as well as advocates for student needs.
Upcoming student elections will be held March 31 and April 1. Connor Joyce, Student Body president, believes it is important for students to vote in the election because SGA is able to enact lasting change. “Few students realize that a simple email to SGA regarding an issue they are having could easily turn into a change for the entire campus,” he said. “It’s imperative for students to research the members running for positions and vote for who they believe will represent their needs the best. “(SGA) has been given a large amount of power from the administration, and it must be utilized.”
Attend the candidate debate scheduled for 7:30 p.m. March 24 in the Prairie Room of the Bone Student Center to learn more about this year’s candidates. And be sure to vote through MyIllinoisState March 31 and April 1!
