On February 24, Prit Supasetsiri, M.F.A. ’88, was inducted into the College of Fine Arts Hall of Fame. He was selected by the faculty of the School of Theatre and Dance. The ceremony took place in the Center for the Performing Arts Theatre and information about Supasetsiri, plus samples of his costume design work have been added to the college’s interactive Hall of Fame located in the lobby of the Center for the Performing Arts.
The presentation was made by University President Larry Dietz, College of Fine Arts Dean James Major, and School of Theatre and Dance Director Janet Wilson. School of Theatre and Dance faculty member Kim Pereira also talked about the programs at Srinakharinwirot University.
Supasetsiri received an M.F.A. in theatre and costume design from Illinois State University in 1988, and is now dean of the college of social communication innovation at Srinakharinwirot University in Bangkok, Thailand. He was responsible for setting up the department of performing arts and performing arts curriculum for the faculty of fine arts at Srinakharinwirot, which now is the most popular and famous theater program in Thailand.
In his acceptance speech, Supasetsiri talked about how his experiences at Illinois State University helped shape the development of arts programs in Thailand, and how important those experiences (and his interactions with faculty, staff, and students) were to him personally.
Dietz talked about how proud Illinois State University is of Supasetsiri, and joked that he’s looking forward to visiting the Illinois State University “Thailand campus.”
