A message from Ann Beck, chair of the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD):
Despite the cold this winter, CSD faculty, supervisors, and students have been busy, productive, and on the go!
The faculty have had a half-dozen manuscripts accepted for publication. Two of our department members are involved with a very unique collaboration with the Mennonite College of Nursing. They have trained retired nurses to play the role of patients with specific conditions and Honors students from both units work together to “treat” the “patients.” Three of our speech-language pathology graduate students presented their research at the Illinois Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ISHA) Convention in February, and we were proud of our four students who represented us at the ISHA College Bowl.
Meanwhile, a group of our Doctor of Audiology (Au.D.) students are getting ready to spend their spring break in Appalachia conducting a humanitarian outreach project, while another group of our Au.D. students are busy raising funds to conduct a humanitarian outreach project in Guatemala in May. Finally, a group of CSD undergraduates and graduates are using their spring break to take advantage of an EF Educational tour to London to learn about communication sciences and disorders.
