The Student Education Association (SEA) will host its first-ever Teaching is a Balancing Act Conference for all Illinois State education majors on Saturday, March 28, in the Bone Student Center. To attend, education majors must register by 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 25.
While the conference is free, the cost of admission is three cans of food or three school supply items. Only attendees who bring these donation items will be allowed into the conference.
The conference will feature topics ranging from dramatic play, using pop culture in the classroom, the challenges of first-year teaching, cultural responsiveness, and more. A complete session and speaker list is available online.
The keynote presenter will be Kira Hamman, instructional assistant professor of early childhood education in the School of Teaching and Learning. Hamann is a former teacher in Chicago Public Schools, and a self-proclaimed “lover of all things related to building classroom communities.” She will speak on the topic of classroom management. Attendees of the conference will earn a four-hour professional development certificate.
