The Metcalf Student Council is being mindful by partnering with our library to sponsor a spring book drive from April 9–17. Please consider donating some used or new books. We’ll take any kind of readable book you have, even picture books.
Boxes will be placed in classrooms for book collection on Wednesday, April 8. Our school goal is to collect 1,000 books. If each homeroom brings in about 60 books, we will more than meet our goal.
The book donations will be supporting the Book Bike. The Book Bike is an extension of the West Bloomington Revitalization Project (WBRP), which is a nonprofit organization that reaches out to lower-income portions of our community. The Book Bike is a mobile library that freely gives away books to all ages. The bike travels to the farmers’ market each Saturday during the market season, is present at various block parties, and school events on the west side such as Irving school. Books are obtained primarily by donation and are always needed.
Karen Schmidt’s vision is to get books into the hands of every community member regardless of their economic status. For more information, check out the following video:
