Karen Pashby will discuss what it means to educate for global citizenship at the next International Seminar Series at noon on Wednesday, April 15, in the Prairie Room of the Bone Student Center.
In a talk titled “Global Citizenship on the International Agenda,” Pashby will explore the differing theories and research on approaching global citizenship, and identify the growing momentum toward a critical approach to global citizenship education.
Pashby earned her Ph.D. in the philosophy of education and comparative, international and development education from the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE) at the University of Toronto. Previously a secondary school teacher in Toronto and in Campinas (Brazil), she worked in the initial teacher education program at OISE, and was the coordinator and an instructor in the Global Citizenship and Sustainable Development cohort in 2013.
Recently, she held a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Oulu in Finland where she instructed in the Education and Globalization master’s program and worked as a researcher on a large-scale, international, comparative mixed methods project involving more than 20 universities across five continents. She is currently a postdoctoral fellow at the Centre for Global Citizenship Education and Research at the University of Alberta.
