Fifty years after first opening the mic, WGLT-FM celebrates a milestone Friday, February 5, with a special edition of its locally produced news magazine Sound Ideas, broadcast 11 a.m.–noon.
The show will feature interviews with past general managers, a conversation with someone who helped establish GLT in 1966, and an interview with McLean County Museum of History executive director Greg Koos about what this community was like in 1966.
Hovey Hall’s lobby will be the site of the WGLT 50th anniversary celebration.
There will also be archived audio, special on-air guests and presentations live from Hovey Hall on ISU’s campus.
The public is invited to join the GLT staff and guests in the first Floor Atrium of Hovey Hall from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. for cake, cookies, and to watch the live broadcast segments. Hovey Hall is ISU’s administration building located at the intersection of North and School Streets. Metered parking is available in the Alamo II.
Following Friday’s broadcast, the anniversary celebration continues all year long, with special events, on-air programming, and commemorative merchandise. More details can be found by checking the website at www.wglt.org.
