This week the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology (CTLT) will introduce you to to technology basics that help you create and share. Explore how to edit vector graphics through Adobe Illustrator. Discover a new way to take your projects with you wherever you go with OneDrive. Some workshops at CTLT require registration, so simply select the link in the workshop title and you’ll be taken directly to the appropriate registration page. This is an introduction to Microsoft Word’s basic tools. You will learn to create new documents, enter and edit text, and save files. Registration is required.
Future Professors Development Circle
Tuesday, March 15 • noon to 1 p.m.
This professional development circle helps graduate students prepare for a career teaching in the academy. Explore pedagogical issues and effective and disruptive teaching strategies, and gain confidence in your ability to teach at the college level. Share teaching tips and tricks, and get support from other future professors. All participants will receive a copy of Teaching What You Don’t Know by Therese Huston. This group is open to all graduate students currently teaching or planning to teach in the future. No registration is necessary.
Illustrator: Part 1
Wednesday, March 16 • 9 a.m. to noon
Get an introduction this vector graphics editor by Adobe Systems, including basic tools and concepts. You will learn to manipulate vector graphics (which allow you to change images without losing their original quality), make basic shapes, and save files. Registration is required.
Early-Career Faculty Development Circle

CTLT’s Early-Career Faculty Circles offer faculty in their first, second, or third year of service at Illinois State a combination of professional development and peer support. Join us for a series of lively conversations about surviving and thriving in the academy. Topics are based on chapters from Make It Stick: The Science of Successful Learning by Peter Brown, Henry Roediger, and Mark McDaniel. Participants will receive a copy of the book and an executive summary of each chapter. Come to either the Wednesday or Thursday session. No registration is necessary.
Illusions of knowing can impede what we think we need to learn. In this session, we will talk about how to encourage self-observation and accuracy as a way for students to analyze what they know and what they need to learn.
Select Survey

Get a basic understanding of Select Survey, an online survey and form development tool. You will learn how to quickly and easily create Web-based surveys from your Web browser. This survey software allows you to easily deploy surveys and view real-time results as responses are received. This workshop is open to faculty, administrators, and staff only. Registration is required.
OneDrive and Office 365 for Mobile
Thursday, March 17 • 9 a.m. to noon
Take your projects on the go using Microsoft Office apps for iOS, Android, and Windows mobile devices. Premium features found in these apps are now available to Illinois State faculty and staff for free as part of the Office 365 software suite. This workshop will get you started working with the mobile versions of Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and OneNote. You will also explore OneDrive, Microsoft’s cloud-based storage, also free for members of the campus community. Learn how to share documents through OneDrive and discuss how this service fits within the boundaries of Illinois State data security policies and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Protection Act). Bring your smartphone or tablet with you to get the most out of this workshop. Registration is required.
