Alumni and friends are invited to support a new endowment honoring John Chizmar and Anthony Ostrosky, economics emeritus professors. The fund was established in the Department of Economics to establish a student scholarship and faculty support. Awards, which will include a scholarship for an undergraduate economics student and an award for an outstanding faculty member in the field of economics education, will be announced this spring.
Chizmar, who earned his Ph.D. from Boston College, came to Illinois State in 1971 and retired in 2002. He received the Illinois State University Outstanding Teaching Award in 1988 and was awarded the Henry H. Villard Research Award, a national research award recognizing outstanding contributions in economic education research. From 1981 to 1991, Chizmar was an Illinois State administrator, serving first as an assistant dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, then as acting associate provost and finally as associate vice president for Business and Finance.
Ostrosky, who earned his Ph.D. from the University of Pittsburgh, came to Illinois State in 1973 and taught economic undergraduate and graduate students as well as graduate students in the MBA program. He also received the Illinois State University Outstanding Teaching Award along with the Alumni Association Distinguished Teaching Award, the Freshman Honor Society Favorite Professor Award and the Outstanding MBA Faculty Award. Ostrosky directed study abroad programs and taught economics at the University of Adelaide, Nanzan University, Salzburg College and the Bank of Tokyo. He retired in 2004, but continues to teach at Illinois State at least one semester per year.
