The National Board for Professional Teaching Standards (NBPTS) today announced that President and CEO Joseph A. Aguerrebere will leave his position effective June 30. The announcement brings to a close Aguerrebere’s successful career with the National Board, during which the organization evolved into the nation’s recognized leader in defining educator effectiveness.
Since Aguerrebere’s arrival in 2003, the number of National Board Certified Teachers (NBCTs) increased nearly fourfold – to more than 91,000 nationwide – and National Board Certification became recognized as the standard for accomplished teaching. He leaves the National Board as the organization is poised to move into new frontiers – scaling up the infusion of the National Board standards, assessment process and best practices into successful schoolwide reform approaches.
