Wondwosen Seyoum has joined the Department of Geography-Geology as an assistant professor. He holds a Ph.D. in hydrology and remote sensing from the University of Georgia. He also holds a master’s degree in geology from Kent State University and both bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia. His research interests include climate and human impact in water, satellite application in hydrology, and interactions between climate/atmosphere, land surface, and the water cycle.
Seyoum is the director of the Water and Climate Research Group at Illinois State University, where group members measure, characterize, and simulate processes in the water cycle using field observations, modeling, and remote sensing. They seek to apply that knowledge to sustainable future water management of the limited global fresh water resources. He is also a member of the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the Geological Society of America (GSA), and the American Institute of Professional Geologists (AIPG).
His most recent publication is “Monitoring and Comparison of Terrestrial Water Storage Changes in the Northern High Plains Using GRACE and In-situ Based Integrated Hydrologic Model Estimates,” which appeared in Advances in Water Resources (2016) journal.
