“The End of Political Islam? Mobilizing Islam and Muslim Southeast Asia” will be the topic of a presentation by Kikue Hamayotsu on Wednesday, Sept. 15, from 12-1 p.m. in the Bone Student Center Third Floor East Lounge. The event is free and open to the public.
Hamayotsu is an assistant professor of political science at Northern Illinois University. Her teaching and research focuses on comparative politics, Southeast Asian politics, politics and religion and political Islam. She has conducted research on state-Islam relations in both Malaysia and Indonesia and her current research projects include religious parties and electoral politics in democratic Indonesia.
Her presentation is part of Illinois State University’s International Studies Seminar Series exploring topics in global politics and culture. The seminar series is organized by the Unit for International Linkages, Office of International Studies and Programs, and the Women’s Studies Program.
