Composer, lyricist, writer and actor Lin-Manuel Miranda will be the featured speaker at Illinois State University’s Latino Cultural Dinner on Tuesday, Oct. 26, at 5 p.m. in the Bone Student Center Brown Ballroom. The event will include Latin American cuisine, music, door prizes and an opportunity for pictures and autographs with Miranda.
Advance purchase tickets for the event are required and are available at University dining centers from Oct. 13 – 20. The cost is $15.25 for community members, $12 for Illinois State faculty, staff and students without a meal plan, or one meal swipe for those with a University meal plan.
Miranda is a Puerto Rican-American composer, lyricist, writer and actor. He won a Tony Award for Best Original Score for In the Heights, a musical of which he wrote the first incarnation his sophomore year at Wesleyan University in Connecticut. Miranda co-founded Freestyle Love Supreme, a hip-hop comedy group that tours comedy festivals all over the world. He is also the recipient of the 2007 ASCAP Richard Rodgers New Horizons Award and has appeared in The Sopranos and Sex and the City.
The Latino Cultural Dinner is hosted by University Housing Services and is co-sponsored by Illinois State’s Association of Latin American Students, Association of Residence Halls, Campus Dining Services, Diversity Advocacy – a unit of the Dean of Students Office, MECCPAC – A Dean of Students Office Diversity Initiative, East Unity, Hewett-Manchester Student Association, and Latin American and Latino Studies Program.
