The McLean County ACT-SO Program is looking for Illinois State University faculty and staff members to serve as volunteer judges for their student competition, to be held Saturday, April 2, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Illinois State University.
ACT-SO (Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological & Scientific Olympics) is a nonprofit academic initiative sponsored by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The local program provides African American students in the Bloomington-Normal area, grades 9-12, an opportunity to explore and challenge their interests and talents in five categories: Science, Humanities, Performing Arts, Visual Arts and Business. The students experience a seven-month, intensive, academic enrichment program that provides mentors and enrichment activities while completing projects. The students then compete locally. Local gold medalists go on to compete at the national level.
