The Department of Criminal Justice Sciences is happy to welcome Brent Teasdale to Illinois State University. Teasdale comes to ISU from Georgia State University, where he was an associate professor and the director of Graduate Studies. Prior to his appointment at GSU, he was an assistant professor in sociology and a senior research associate at the Institute for Health and Social Policy at the University of Akron.
Originally from California, Teasdale began his academic life as an undergraduate student at California State University, Sacramento, where he graduated magna cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in sociology and psychology. From California, he went to The Pennsylvania State University, where he received an master’s degree in crime, law, and justice, and a Ph.D. in sociology.
Teasdale’s research interests center on mental illness, violence, and drugs. He has written extensively about violence by and against those with mental illnesses. He has also published on a variety of issues related to the implementation and evaluation of a substance abuse prevention program called Take Charge of Your Life, which was delivered to a sample of seventh- and ninth-graders from across the United States.
