School of Biological Sciences graduate Christine Hodges ’11, M.S. ’14, is now a physical science technician in the laboratory of Susan McCormick at the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Laboratory in Peoria.

Graduate student’s research: Turtles, sex determination, and climate change
Ph.D. student Amanda Wilson Carter has explored the marshes of Illinois and the swamps of South Carolina in pursuit of slider turtles for her research this summer.
Alum, now at Field Museum, returns to present research at Biological Science Seminar April 30
Ben Marks, currently the head of Zoological Collections at the Field Museum of Natural History, will be returning to Illinois State University to give a presentation on his research on tropical bird speciation processes. Marks’ presentation “Avian diversification in the African tropics”, will be 4-5 p.m. Thursday, April 30, in Moulton Hall, room 201.

Lucia Carvelli, an assistant professor in the department of basic science in the University of North Dakota School of Medicine, will be giving a presentation titled “Amphetamine and Its Multiple Targets: An In Vitro and In Vivo Study” 4-5 p.m. Thursday, April 23, in 201 Moulton Hall.

Loren Merrill, a postdoctoral researcher in the Illinois Natural History Survey at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will be giving a presentation on his research on the evolution of immune function in response to parasites. His presentation, “Life history and immune function: understanding the causes and consequences of variation in defenses against parasites” will be given 4-5 p.m. Thursday, April 16, in Moulton Hall, room 210.
