Everyone is welcome to attend the second annual Communities of Belonging and Success (COBAS) Taller (Workshop) on Thursday, June 1 from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Williams Hall, Room 314. The workshop is made possible by an Illinois State University Provost Innovation and Enhancement Grant. As a child, Michelle Maslanka ’14 regularly assumed the role of a giant monster, destroying buildings, eating people, and wreaking havoc—at least until the clock expired. A classic arcade game enthusiast, Rampage won the heart of Maslanka at an early age.
There’s not a day Todd Kober ‘97, M.S. ‘99 can recall where football was not a part of his life. In fact, Kober has never missed viewing an NFL Draft on TV—not once—until 2023. He traded that standing, annual TV date with the draft for a life-changing professional experience.

Sweat drips down the faces of players, the intoxicating aroma of the rubber beneath their feet, squeaking and squealing against the polished wood floor of the Horton Field House basketball court. Excitement fills the air as the Redbirds pull out another win and the bleachers slowly empty into the parking lots—and there’s Tom Lamonica on the sidelines cheering until the very last minute.
March Madness is more than just a sorority event for Emily McAuliff. As a passionate advocate for impacting children’s lives, she has dedicated her last two years at Illinois State University to chairing the Make-A-Wish Illinois event. McAuliff is driven by a desire to impact others—most notably, children.
A networking is often the catalyst needed to jumpstart a career, but just the thought of going to one is enough to get any college student’s heart pounding. Networking can be intimidating, but it doesn’t have to be.
