Castiblanco encourages other Bloomington-Normal residents to visit Illinois State with fresh eyes and a different perspective. “I’ve still been able to get out of Bloomington-Normal in a sense by coming to college here,” she says. “It’s all worked out, and this is a great university.”
Honors sophomore Angela Brown forged a new path when she chose Illinois State.
The Honors Program is proud of two Illinois State University Physics majors who were recently awarded the Goldwater Scholarship. Honors Program Assistant Director Christie Martin was pleased to work with Saxton and Unger throughout the application process.
Mary Doro has enjoyed her well-rounded experience at Illinois State, both on campus and beyond. Doro, a senior Presidential Scholar and special education major, has studied abroad three times, and Honors Travel to Peru over winter break was her first study abroad experience.
Zach Benefield chose Illinois State for two reasons: meaningful interaction with faculty and worthwhile learning experiences. “ISU focuses on their students more than other institutions,” Benefield said.
Honors freshman enrollment is up 52% this fall at Illinois State. Clearly, students want to be at ISU, and they want to be a part of the Honors Program.
According to Meriam-Webster, leadership is the power or ability to lead other people. According to junior Josh Collier, Presidential Scholar and actuarial science major, leadership is a little more complex than that.
What do you get when you combine one motivated Illinois State University student with dedicated mentors, academic research, and the “Honors Mindset?” Some pretty innovative learning experiences, as Basheer Becerra can attest.
“I joined the Honors Program to find a small community within the larger University,” Durnil says. “I was only going to attend ISU if I knew I would be part of the Honors Program, too. ”
The Illinois State University Honors Program has a new face, and just in time for a new place. This summer Dr. Rocío Rivadeneyra was named Interim Director and the Honors Program moved to the Professional Development Building.
