2024 Electoral Engagement Fellowship applications open
Applications for the 2024 Civic Engagement Fellowship are now open until November 26. Proposals should focus on research related to elections or electoral engagement.
Toys for Tots donations now being accepted
Illinois State University and the Civil Service Council are partnering for the ninth time with Toys for Tots of McLean County. New and unwrapped toys, for children ages from newborn to 12 years old, can now be dropped off at campus locations.
Pumpkin Compost Drive, November 1–17
The Office of Sustainability at Illinois State University invites you to save your jack-o-lantern and other festive pumpkins and gourds from the scary fate of the landfill by composting them during the third annual Pumpkin Compost Drive.
All pumpkins and gourds free of paint, stickers, glitter, or other synthetic decorations can be dropped off in the bins outside of 305 N. School St. in Normal to be composted from November 1 through November 17 between the hours of 8 a.m. and 6 p.m.
Stevenson Center’s Applied Community and Economic Development students attend Housing Matters Conference
Dr. Mike Hendricks and the Applied Community Economic Development students in his POL 470: Seminar in Community Development course attended the 2023 Housing Matters Conference in Bloomington, October 19-20.
Campus Sustainability Showcase, October 26
The Center for a Sustainable Water Future and the Office of Sustainability are hosting Illinois State University’s first ever Campus Sustainability Showcase on Thursday, October 26, from 9 a.m.-noon in the Old Main Room of the Bone Student Center with support of the Vice President of Academic Affairs and Provost. All members of the Illinois State University community are invited to attend.
Civic Engagement Service-Learning Grants, apply now through December 1
Civic Engagement Service-Learning Grants, co-sponsored by Senior Professionals, the Center for Civic Engagement, and the State Farm Foundation, are available for Illinois State University registered student organizations or individuals working together on an in-course project that is aimed at making a difference within the Bloomington-Normal/McLean County community.

STEM camp ‘instills empowerment’: nonprofit, Illinois State host local youths at weeklong STEM camp
A collaboration between two local entities whose shared mission focuses on creating opportunities for young people has produced a program that’s loaded with fun learning experiences. Western Avenue Community Center in Bloomington and Illinois State University have partnered on a program called EARLI–STEMbirds that gives Bloomington-Normal youths the chance to pretend to be college students.
