After more than a year of discussing the proposal to merge the Civil Service and Administrative Professional Councils, including the articles linked above, a university-wide staff advisory survey was held in recent weeks to gauge the thoughts of staff across ISU. The survey closed on December 6th, and the results are in.

Previous articles summarize the history of the proposal for a Staff Council, the reasons that led the CS and A/P councils to support it, and the overall structure and role of the Staff Council. Now we will address typical questions we’ve received about the merger.

Perhaps the most important function of the Staff Council is its role in shared governance at Illinois State. The CS and A/P Councils provide representatives for many university groups and committees so that staff make their voices heard. One of the core justifications for the merger is to produce a stronger, more unified staff voice in these venues. We now turn to where and how that voice is exercised.

Come say hello and grab a hot drink with members of the Civil Service (CS) and Academic/Professional (A/P) council members who serve you. The “grab and go” is Thursday, November 21, from noon to 1:30 p.m, in the Bone Student Center’s Spotlight Room. Beverages are free and no RSVP is required.
