Alexis Haas of Bloomington has spent more than half her life serving her community. First she had role models in her parents, Lisa and Kurt, who both remain dedicated to community service. Incoming Illinois State freshman Parker Daugherty could sense the excitement. He was serving one afternoon through Feed My Sheep, a backpack program his church started a few years ago that provides meals to students who qualify for free and reduced school lunches. Daugherty, who is days away from finishing up his senior year at LeRoy High School, was stuffing food in the backpack when a little boy let out a gleeful yell. It turned out Daugherty had just packed his favorite cereal.
Therapeutic recreation students make an impact
