An unexpected shift from struggle to success: Journey of BSW grad Megan Martell

As Megan Martell graduates from the School of Social Work at Illinois State this May, her story serves as a testament to resilience, determination, and the power of self-discovery. Born and raised in Illinois, Martell’s upbringing was shaped by the challenges of single parenthood. Her parents divorced when she was 2 years old, leaving her mother to navigate the complexities of raising a child while pursuing her career aspirations, which was nothing short of difficult for the family.

Eight research projects involving 16 faculty members are the winners of the inaugural Dean’s Research Challenge Grants. Proposals submitted this year were required to focus on one of two themes: “Equity” or “Environment.” Recipients will deliver presentations about their research projects at a College of Arts and Sciences Research Symposium on Friday, October 11.

The Department of Politics and Government is hosting a retirement reception honoring Dr. T.Y. Wang, chair and professor for the department, from 3:30-6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 1, 2024, in the Founders Suite inside Bone Student Center.
