Almost 6,500 students will move into Illinois State University’s residence halls beginning on Wednesday, Aug. 17, and Thursday, Aug. 18. Students will once again have an assigned move-in time based on their floor assignment.
Nearly 600 students and Illinois State representatives as well as Association of Residence Halls students and staff will serve as volunteer move-in leaders at the residence halls starting at 8 a.m. on Wednesday and Thursday and continuing until 4 p.m.
Temporary traffic patterns will be established for the area around Watterson Towers and Hewett and Manchester halls on the east side of campus. Fell Avenue will be designated one-way southbound from Mulberry Street to Beaufort, and will be closed to through traffic between College Avenue and North Street. School Street will be one-way southbound between College Avenue and North Street, and North Street will be one-way east from School Street to Fell Avenue. Access to the Science Lab Building will be available from the intersection of College and Fell avenues.
On the west side of campus, traffic will be routed to the residence halls from Adelaide Street. Watterson Towers’ traffic will begin at the intersection of School Street and College Avenue and continue southbound on School Street, east on North Street and south on Fell Avenue to Watterson Towers. Extra parking will be available in the University parking lot on Locust Street, the lots directly north of the Bone Student Center pay parking lot, and the lot north of Haynie, Wilkins, and Wright halls. The Hancock Stadium lots will be used for overflow parking.
Following the move-in, new freshman and transfer students will participate in Passages, a five-day orientation program that helps students feel at home at Illinois State and in the community.
International, Honors and returning students will move into Hewett and Manchester halls beginning Monday, Aug. 15, by their floor designation.
